Welcome to
Bellydance Jini – About Myself
Hi all, well here we go…
I started dancing in 1992, at the
ripe old age of 17…. I was taught at
Glenfield Collage by the exquisite dancer, Yasmina. She was well versed with Egyptian dancing (traditional and
modern) as well as Cabaret. Yasmina
would put on a show each year, to show what we had all learnt. I spent 10 years learning with her. I must say, this was a fun class to
participate in, and I do choose to share this style with you all.
After a year off in Australia (doing
the big OE) I came back to the wonderful land of New Zealand, and continued to
dance, now taking classes with Shakeelah as Yasmina had chosen to retire.
These classes were more structured
towards performing, and perfecting already known dance steps. These too were wonderful classes, and with
the shows that Shakeelah organized, you were guaranteed a wonderful evening –
for dancers and audience alike! The
classes included some very modern music, funky new dance steps, and fusion from
other dance cultures.
It was with Shakeelah’s persuasion
that I started teaching in term 1 2007, at Glenfield College. I have found this to be a fabulous
experience and I have met wonderful ladies, and made some great friends
too!! I also hope that I have managed
to pass on some of the knowledge and fun that I have known bellydancing to be.
I have chosen to start teaching an
additional class – and Intermediate class, for those interested in Term 2 and 3
at Glenfield Community Centre. This is
mainly to build on the steps learnt previously, adding a few more steps,
learning better techniques and transitional steps, and more fun choreography’s.
